Another year of the COVID-19 pandemic has passed, and we are all increasingly getting used to the new normal. Despite significant challenges, our grantees and partners continued to deliver impact for young people in cities across the world and explore how technology can improve their health and wellbeing.
We are looking back at the achievements and learnings from an unprecedented year of innovation, community, and collaboration in Our Year: 2021 in Review.
As another year goes by, we’d like to stop for a moment, look back, and reflect on where we’ve come. In this blog, you’ll meet Fondation Botnar’s first cohort of Young Professionals, Namrata and Daniela. We ask them about their work and their passions before they take off to spend one year in the field.
We are excited to share another edition of The Catalyst with you all. In this edition, we are celebrating announcements and updates from Urban October, World Cities Day, and highlights of the incredible work of some of our partners.
More than half of the world’s population lives in cities, and by 2050, that number will have grown to two thirds. As more people move to cities for a better life, millions of young people grow up in environments that don’t meet their needs.
In the face of the pandemic, young people from all over the world have demonstrated a willingness and desire to help rebuild their cities in a way that would ensure all citizens, especially young people, can thrive. In the coming decades, they will be leading the future of our cities, but unfortunately their voices and perspectives on urban issues are often left out of key discussions.
Since becoming the first CEO of Fondation Botnar in 2017, Stefan Germann has led us through a period of rapid growth and change. Here he reflects on how challenges in 2020 further shaped our work and our organisation.
